There are two main methods used today to create lab grown diamonds, HPHT and CVD. HPHT diamonds are made in a closed chamber under extreme conditions of high pressure and high temperature. A tiny diamond seed is placed into a piece of pure carbon, which is then put into the chamber. It’s heated to around 1500 degrees Celsius while about 1.5 million pounds of pressure per square inch is applied. The carbon melts at this heat and forms around the seed, slowly growing into a rough diamond crystal over 4 to 6 weeks.

The carbon melts at that level of heat which then forms around the seed, growing and transforming into a diamond rough crystal over 4-6 weeks.
